Dolce&Gabbana Perfumes: A Glimpse of Luxury
By PerfumeFan
Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana began their creative partnership in 1982 by starting their own business under the label Dolce & Gabbana. In their early career, both designers were working as assistants in another fashion house. They became a couple in 1980 but unfortunately parted ways in 2005. Nevertheless, they maintained the professional relationship and continue to design together as business partners. In the years that follow, the Dolce & Gabbana label expanded to other products that include fragrances, footwear, accessories and handbags.
Dolce & Gabbana has two central lines under its brand: Dolce&Gabbana (no spaces) and D&G. The Dolce&Gabbana label specializes on the classic-themed luxury items while the D&G line is more of the trendy type, more chic and very urbane. The fragrances are under both labels.
The first fragrance was Dolce&Gabbana Cologne for Men, which was launched in 1992. This scent is a paradox of casualness and elegance. It’s the type of classic masculine scent that communicates self-confidence. Its dynamic freshness expresses its personality through lemony-citrus notes, aromatic lavender and the boldness of wood notes.
Dolce&Gabbana Perfume for Women is an intense-floral fragrance. It’s sweet yet bitter; feminine yet also masculine. Such contrast creates a sexy and titillating scent. It embodies passion and glamor in one extraordinary perfume. The seductive feel of the fragrance make you want to snuggle up with your partner and whisper sweet nothings to each other.
D&G Feminine Perfume for Women and D&G Masculine Cologne for Men were both introduced in 1999 to target the young market. Modern and definitely uncomplicated, these fragrances exemplify the contemporary lifestyle. It’s naturally fresh, classy sans the old-fashioned smell, subtle and a tad powdery on the dry down and lastly, it permeates a unique ambiance that gives off a slight jolt to the senses -- just right and not at all cloying.
Then came Light Blue Perfume for Women, a perennial best-seller among the collection. This fragrance is a gourmet of fresh citrus fruits, sparkling floral scents and deep musky woods. The well-blended notes create a summery freshness appeal. The sillage is certainly feminine but according to reviews, it could be a shared fragrance as well. Dolce&Gabbana was quick to come up with the Pour Homme version. This time the summer breeze is reminiscent of the beaches in the Mediterranean Coast. The freshness has a distinct aquatic scent. It’s cool and very relaxed.
Dolce&Gabbana The One Perfume for Women is an oriental-floral based perfume bursting with succulent fruity accords and sun-kissed oranges at the top notes and vanilla-amber accords on the base. It’s one of those breathtaking fragrances that seemingly embrace you in a blanket of lush floral bouquet. The One for Men on the other hand, is woody-oriental in composition. Stefano Gabbana led the creation of this fragrance. He was inspired by the idea of “uomo” – very masculine, classic, the type of scent that women would adore.
