The Electronic Perfume Guide
By PerfumeFan
While it’s true that you’ll never run out of perfumes to choose from nowadays but don’t you just hate it when you get stuck? Which fragrance is it going to be this time?
Case in point: Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium sounds elegant, right? But there are more than five Opium variants in the market today. So, which one is the perfect choice? A fragrance that will blend perfectly to the wearer, a fragrance that will accentuate the wearer’s personality, a fragrance that will define the wearer’s mood. The list goes on and on, ad infinitum. I get a headache just thinking about the choices and the ensuing olfactory confusion.
With that in mind, wouldn’t it be great to have someone or a tool perhaps to help you go over the multitude of selection available in the perfumery? Reviews by perfumistas are superb alright but they don’t really address the need especially if you already have a set of criteria in mind.
This is the fun part. L’Oreal has created a tool called Perfume Coach. As the name suggests, it is designed to help you in choosing the fragrance, both for yourself and for gifting.
How does the Perfume Coach work?
According to L’Oreal, “The Perfume Coach is a simple, portable IPAQ, which invites travelers to choose different images related to personal preferences in terms of taste, atmosphere, car, clothing style, parties, hotels, colors and textures. Options differ according to whether the user is male or female, and buying for gifting or self-purchase. At the end of the visual questionnaire, four fragrance concept recommendations appear on the final screen. The consumer can then choose which fragrance to purchase, based on his or her emotional profile.”
It definitely sounds awesome, right? With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to determine which fragrances match the recipient’s profile. This tool certainly helps in deciding the perfect perfume.
Going back to YSL Opium, you can now determine which variant will suit the user’s profile. Does she like it light and fresh? Go for YSL Opium Eau d’Ete. Is she in the mood for something exotic with tons of floral notes? How about YSL Opium Orchidee de Chine? Is she the no-nonsense, classy type? Then, it’s got to be the original formula, Opium.
Electronic tools certainly made our lives easier in the 20th century and beyond. The Perfume Coach is a nice addition to the perfume loving public’s tool in selecting fragrances.
I know it's tempting to have this gadget. Would you buy one?
